Italy and South Korea have signed several agreements this Friday in areas such as energy, semiconductors, and security and defense, among others, and have also decided to elevate their bilateral relationship to "special strategic".
During a bilateral summit held in Rome, the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the South Korean President, Lee Jae Myung, have strengthened ties between the two countries with the signing of four memorandums of understanding. Through these documents, Italy and South Korea express their commitment to collaborate in technology, security, and defense, as well as in promoting commercial opportunities and developing joint projects in Africa.
As reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, among the African states where the implementation of possible initiatives will be studied are Uganda, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Ivory Coast.
"An important meeting, which marks a further strengthening of relations between Italy and Korea, elevated today to the level of Special Strategic Partnership," said the Italian Prime Minister about the summit with the South Korean leader, who is in Europe to participate in the G7 leaders' summit.
According to Meloni, the meeting served to deepen collaboration in key sectors "such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, space, automotive, energy, security, and defense, also addressing major international issues."
"At the end of the meeting, we signed four agreements in the sectors of development cooperation, advanced science and technology, information and communication, social economy, and small and medium-sized enterprises," she reviewed.
