The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ivory Coast, Nialé Kaba, has once again expressed her country's support for Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara this Thursday, during a bilateral meeting in Rabat with her Moroccan counterpart, Naser Burita.

The meeting took place within the framework of the second Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in the Francophone Sphere, held in the Moroccan capital. In this context, the head of Ivorian diplomacy has underlined "Ivory Coast's constant support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom (of Morocco) over its entire territory, including the Sahara region," as reported by the MAP agency.

On this first official visit of Kaba to Morocco as minister, the head of Ivorian diplomacy has also confirmed her government's support for the Autonomy Plan promoted by Rabat, which contemplates for the former Spanish colony a self-government regime led by a figure appointed by Mohamed VI and which must be ratified by all Moroccan citizens through a referendum.

The details of said plan were presented in mid-February, following a meeting held at that time at the United States Embassy in Madrid, where its main lines were discussed.

For his part, Burita has praised Ivory Coast's position and has pointed to the opening of an Ivorian Consulate General in the city of Laayoune, located in Sahrawi territory, in 2020 as a sign of the "strength" of the partnership between the two countries.
