The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine announced this Tuesday that on Monday night, the lifeless body of Anastasia Berezovskaya, considered the main suspect in the attack perpetrated a week ago in Monaco against Ukrainian oligarch Vadim Ermolaev, was found in Kyiv.
According to the Public Ministry on its social media, authorities managed to locate her thanks to the statement of one of the two individuals who have admitted their participation in the case. These are an active intelligence officer and a former member of the Ukrainian security forces.
Berezovskaya, 39, had bullet impacts to the head. The woman had been identified as the main perpetrator of the explosive attack that left Ermolaev seriously injured, requiring the amputation of a leg, as well as his partner, who remains in critical condition, and his minor son.
According to the investigation, after returning to Ukraine, the suspect contacted her relatives and these two men, who have already been arrested for murder. Investigators also claim that both made bank transfers in favor of Berezovskaya. During searches, in the former agent's home, "a basement with characteristics similar to those of a torture chamber was discovered."
Images captured by security cameras allowed the identification of the woman, who was wearing a black hat and loose clothing, during several "reconnaissance trips" on June 26 and 27. Two days later, she waited for the victims on a bench in Place des Moulins and placed an explosive device on the building's stairs.
The businessman, considered the 23rd wealthiest person in Ukraine according to Forbes magazine, has resided in the Principality since at least 2021, and two years earlier had obtained Cypriot nationality. Furthermore, he has been subject to Ukrainian sanctions since December 2023 for his business activities in Crimea, a territory whose authority Ukraine claims after its annexation by Russia in 2014.
