Israeli security forces arrested a man this Friday who is accused of preparing possible attacks against the LGTBIQ community during the Pride events scheduled for this June.

The arrest occurs as thousands of people travel to Tel Aviv to participate in the well-known annual Pride parade that takes place in this city, in a context marked by growing regional tension following offensives launched against Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon.

According to the Israel Police, the arrested individual is a 37-year-old resident of Haifa who, according to preliminary investigations, had expressed his intention to "cause harm to participants in the Pride month across the country," as reported by the newspaper 'The Times of Israel'.

The alarms were triggered after the alleged suspect disseminated a message on social media in which he spoke of "annihilating" attendees: "It seems the time has come to finish them off again. They are sick, disgusting people."

Security forces have asked the Haifa court to extend his arrest in order to keep him in custody while investigations continue.
