The authorities of the Netherlands have expressed this Friday their "concern" about the migratory crisis that Ceuta is going through and have urged the Spanish Executive to do "what is necessary" to "protect the external borders of the European Union."
"Worrying developments in Ceuta. We trust that Spain will do what is necessary to protect the external borders of the EU and that Morocco will also take the appropriate measures," asserted the Dutch Foreign Minister, Tom Berendsen.
The head of Dutch diplomacy explained that during the morning of this Friday he has maintained contacts with Spanish and Moroccan officials to address the situation. "It is good that the European Commission has offered help," he stated in a message disseminated on social media.
The European Commission indicated on Thursday that it was closely monitoring the crisis in Ceuta and conveyed its willingness to support the Government of Spain.
Since Thursday, thousands of immigrants have arrived in the autonomous city both by swimming and walking along the breakwater that separates Ceuta from Morocco. According to police sources, more than 20,000 people would have managed to enter Spanish territory and, at least, 16 would have lost their lives in the last 24 hours.
