The President of the United States, Donald Trump, communicated this Sunday that a new phase of contacts with Iran will be initiated on the afternoon of this Monday, after his recent statements about the supposed cancellation of an attack against the Islamic Republic, once, according to his version, the parties would have reached an understanding to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
"What we are going to do is talk to them in the form of a negotiation. It starts tomorrow afternoon," the Republican leader stated to reporters aboard Air Force One, after taking off from Andrews Air Force Base, near Washington DC.
In this context, the American president referred again to the attack against Iran that he claims to have halted, directly relating that decision to the start of talks with Tehran.
"Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran asked me," Trump specified, before pointing out that the offensive was scheduled for around midnight this Monday and that "it would have been a massive attack."
Immediately after, the head of the White House stated that "the reason they asked" to halt the military operation "is that they believe there is an agreement." "There is an agreement on Hormuz and then there will be an agreement on the denuclearization of Iran," he emphasized.
These statements come after he asserted on Saturday that he had agreed to suspend a possible attack against Iran, following the request of that country and other states in the Middle East to stop any military action once a principle of understanding on the basis of a pact was reached. However, he also warned that the United States is prepared to deploy a military response capability "unseen" since 1945.
In parallel, Iranian political leaders and military commanders have come forward this Sunday to categorically deny Trump's version, insisting that no type of agreement has been reached regarding this strategic enclave.
"It is simply false," sources from the Iranian negotiating team indicated to the semi-official Fars agency, which also reported the denial from high-ranking military officials on condition of anonymity. "As long as the hostile and malicious acts of the United States continue, the strait will remain closed," they emphasized.
