More than 150 migrants have been assisted this Tuesday in the waters of the English Channel by rescue services from the United Kingdom and France, after the vessel they were traveling in capsized when the engine caught fire.
In total, 157 people have been rescued by French maritime units, which have been supported by two ships from the British Border Security Command and a rescue vessel from the NGO Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). According to French authorities, the group has been disembarked in the town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, where they are receiving medical attention.
The incident takes place a day after the leader of the far-right party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, proposed to resort to the Royal Navy to return migrants to French or Belgian soil as part of a plan he has dubbed "Operation Fortress."
