The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Swedish ambassador in Moscow, Christina Johannesson, for consultations this Monday, following the attack registered last week against the Russian Embassy in Stockholm, when a drone launched a can of red paint over part of the diplomatic compound.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that "this is not the first time" such "unacceptable" incidents have occurred and that the Swedish authorities have been informed of this "periodically," further reproaching them for not having adopted "adequate" legal and political measures to confront them.
"Measures should have been taken to prevent these incidents from recurring. Unfortunately, they are repeated time and again," the spokeswoman criticized in a press conference, according to the TASS news agency.
Zakharova emphasized that Russian diplomatic personnel face not only "theoretical threats" to their integrity but also "literal physical attacks" such as the one carried out by this drone that flew over the Embassy's perimeter.
Last week, the Russian Embassy in Stockholm reported that it had been attacked by two drones: one of them threw red paint on the facilities, images of which it disseminated on its social networks, while the second carried a "fake improvised explosive device."
"This is not simply a provocation, but a blatant attempt to intimidate the personnel of the Russian mission," protested the diplomatic authorities, who claimed to have suffered more than 25 attacks of this type since May 2024.
