At least six people have lost their lives after the collapse of a three-story building in the Indian city of Bombay, in the west of the country, amid an episode of torrential rains that has been battering the city for hours and which forced the temporary interruption of operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The collapse occurred in the Manjurd area, where rescue efforts are ongoing to try to locate any missing persons among the rubble. The incident has so far left at least one injured person, according to the Indian newspaper 'The Times of India'.
The mayor of Bombay, Ritu Tawade, stated after the incident that the incident is related to the irregular construction of housing in the affected area and lamented that such practices persist even when authorities issue evacuation and demolition orders due to structural risk.
The intense rainfall recorded in recent hours caused the aforementioned paralysis of activity at Bombay airport, as well as floods in various parts of the city and the death of another person in the suburb of Kurla, after a tree fell on a shop.
