The Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, has demanded this Saturday that Spain implement "necessary and concrete" measures to "protect the external border of Europe" using, if necessary, the "available European instruments."
The Swedish Government is among the 22 EU member states that this Saturday have signed a strong letter linking the recent migration crisis in Ceuta with the decisions of the Spanish Executive. In the text, they demand a coordinated response at the community level to prevent a similar episode from happening again and request the urgent convening of a meeting of the interior ministers of the European Union.
After the letter was made public, Kristersson has spread a message on social media in which he explicitly addresses the Government of Spain, emphasizing that it is essential to immediately adopt "the necessary and concrete measures required to protect the external border of Europe and prevent this from having consequences for other European countries."
"It is important that Spain uses the available European instruments. Because this is about the borders of Europe. We saw what happened when they were not protected, and we will never go back to that point," concluded the head of the Swedish Executive.
