The presidents of the United States and Turkey, Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, respectively, are scheduled to explore new avenues this week to "strengthen the strategic partnership" between the two countries, taking advantage of the NATO summit to be held starting this Tuesday in Ankara, the Turkish capital.

The spokesman for the Turkish Presidency, Burhanettin Duran, stated in a press release that, "at the invitation of President Erdogan, Donald Trump will visit Turkey on an official visit to the country on July 7."

As detailed by Duran, during the visit, both delegations are scheduled to analyze in depth "relations between the two countries, including cooperation in defense, trade, and investment." "The parties will also consider the possibility of deepening their ties," he added, emphasizing that various regional and international issues are also on the agenda.

This meeting will mark the first bilateral encounter between the two leaders since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025. The talks will take place in parallel with the NATO summit, which will last until July 8.

In the days leading up to the start of the Atlantic meeting, Turkish authorities have already arrested more than a hundred people who participated in a march against NATO in the capital over the weekend. The mobilization took place despite restrictions imposed by the government ahead of the summit, including a ban on demonstrations and a significant reinforcement of security measures in various parts of Ankara, where several streets and roads have also been closed as part of this operation.
