The president of the United States, Donald Trump, claims that the vandals are responsible for the damage that has been noticeable for weeks in the remodeling of the pond of the Lincoln Memorial, thus contradicting the conclusions made public hours earlier by his prosecutor for the District of Columbia and close friend, Jeanine Pirro.
On the afternoon of last Friday, Pirro decided to withdraw the vandalism lawsuit against former athlete David Hearn, who was accused of having torn off the lining of the pond placed by order of the president, and acknowledged that the damages were "the result of faulty installation by the contractor."
Trump has expressed his displeasure at the turn taken by Pirro. "I am 100 percent in disagreement and I don't know what this woman was thinking," he wrote on his social media. "There may have been some difficulties with the contractor, but the biggest damage has been caused by the vandals," he added, insisting on his version.
In his post, the president included a video released by the Department of the Interior and dated June 19, in which a person is seen putting their hand in the pond. In Trump's view, this would be one of those "vandals" who is, he claims, "cutting the material with a knife or a blade in plain sight of everyone," although the distance of the recording prevents clearly verifying whether the individual is holding any object in their hands.
