The Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, has submitted her resignation this Friday to President Donald Trump. The decision is due to personal reasons, after her husband was detected with a type of bone cancer.
"My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer," she stated in a resignation letter released on social media, in which she also expressed her gratitude to Trump for the trust placed in her over the past year and a half at the head of the Intelligence office.
Gabbard explained that she needs to leave the position to be able to accompany her husband and "fully support him in this battle." "I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and complete transition in the coming weeks," she added.
Gabbard's last day —appointed in February 2025 after receiving the approval of the US Senate— is scheduled for next June 30. For the moment, the White House has not issued any official statement about her departure.
The resignation comes shortly after the resignation of Joe Kent, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center of the United States, who left the position due to his disagreements with the Administration of Donald Trump regarding the war with Iran, a conflict he considered unjustified and attributed to "the pressure from Israel and its influential lobby in the United States."
