The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General of Emigration, has launched health and social actions aimed at people affected by the double earthquake that occurred in Venezuela.
In this context, the Director General of Emigration of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Téllez, held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon with representatives of the 22 Canary Islands entities present in the Venezuelan country, along with the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Venezuela, which are offering support, especially in the most affected areas, such as Caracas and La Guaira.
During this last follow-up meeting, as indicated by the regional Executive in a press release, Téllez detailed the actions approved in the last Council of Government, which include a budgetary modification of up to 1.8 million euros to reinforce the response capacity of the Canary Islands Government in the face of the emergency situation.
Within the framework of this urgent intervention, water is being distributed among the affected people previously identified as priorities, while the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands is preparing batches of medicines for citizens with health needs in La Guaira, with their distribution expected to begin in the coming days.
In parallel, progress is being made, both by the Government Delegation and by Unión Canaria, in the implementation of a psychological support service for those affected who need it.
The meeting also addressed the planning, by Fedecanarias, of medical conferences in La Guaira, aimed at the most remote areas where both Canary Islanders and their descendants reside, many of them with significant mobility difficulties.
