The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced this Wednesday that the last Council of Ministers in June will give the green light to a new decree-law with fiscal and economic support measures derived from the international conflict caused by the war between Iran and Israel.
In his speech, Sánchez alluded to June 29, Monday, as the planned date, although the Council of Ministers is usually held on Tuesdays, in this case the 30th, just when several of the fiscal aid measures included in the previous decree-law expire.
As he detailed, it will be "a new royal decree-law for the protection of the productive fabric and also of the citizens of our country," whose content will be conditioned by the evolution of the announcement of a new ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
That international conflict led the Executive to approve a decree-law last March with tax reductions to cushion its impact, especially on energy prices. However, some of those measures, such as the reduction of VAT on electricity or the reduction of the Special Tax on Electricity, have ceased to be in force in June.
The Government has closely followed the situation before deciding whether to promote new actions and, during the control session in Congress, Sánchez indicated that the Executive is already in contact with the affected sectors and parliamentary groups, trusting that on this occasion the PP will support the text to ensure its validation.
As with any decree-law, the norm will first be approved in the Council of Ministers and subsequently published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). From then on, it will have a period of thirty days for its submission to Congress, which will have to decide whether to validate or repeal it.
Impact of the previous decree from March
During the control session, the head of the Executive wanted to highlight that the results of the March decree-law, endowed with 5,000 million euros, have been "frankly positive" in terms of protecting families and businesses.
Sánchez emphasized that the package activated then contributed to containing inflation and allowed for the "consolidation" of economic growth and job creation in a scenario of sharp increases in energy prices, while also providing support to particularly hard-hit sectors such as agriculture or the electro-intensive industry.
Specifically, the president highlighted that, thanks to this decree, farmers have had access to 500 million euros for the purchase of fertilizers, which has allowed "saving" the harvest campaign, and that the electricity bill for the energy-intensive industry has been reduced by 14%.
To conclude, Sánchez reiterated that the Government will continue to dialogue with parliamentary groups with the aim of moving forward with the new decree-law of June 29, which will be approved in a "different" context after the ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran.
