Irene Montero considers the legislature exhausted and affirms that the Government is "buried"

Irene Montero has increased the pressure on Pedro Sánchez this Sunday by stating that the Government is "buried" and that the legislature is "exhausted". The Podemos MEP made these statements before joining the demonstration in defense of public healthcare in Madrid.

Montero has assured that the Executive "has not resolved a single one of the people's problems" and cited healthcare, housing, and the price of things as examples of the social wear and tear that, in her opinion, the legislature is going through.

Her words come at a particularly delicate moment for the Government, with the opposition calling for early elections, several parliamentary partners increasing pressure, and Pedro Sánchez defending his intention to serve out the full term.

Montero: "This Government is buried"

The Podemos leader was asked if there was any red line for continuing to support the Government. Her answer was forceful: "Red line? The problem is that this Government is buried and this legislature is exhausted."

Montero added that the Executive has not responded to the main problems of the citizenry and maintained that, furthermore, the political situation has been aggravated by corruption and institutional wear and tear.

The MEP placed her intervention within a broader framework of social mobilization and argued that the left must return to the streets when governments do not respond to what people need.

Podemos hardens discourse against Sánchez

Irene Montero's statements represent a further hardening of Podemos's discourse against the coalition Government. The purple party has been raising its tone against the Executive for weeks, trying to mark political distance from the PSOE and Sumar.

Montero's message directly addresses the heart of the current debate: whether the legislature can continue until 2027 or if political and parliamentary wear and tear makes early elections inevitable.

Podemos is not part of the Government, but its position remains relevant in the left-wing space and in the political reading of the progressive bloc's stability.

Healthcare, housing, and prices

Montero linked her criticism of the Government to three major social issues: healthcare, housing, and the cost of living. In her opinion, the Executive has not provided a sufficient response to any of these problems.

The statement was made before a demonstration in defense of public healthcare in Madrid, a mobilization called by neighborhood and social groups against the deterioration of the healthcare system.

The Podemos leader took advantage of that context to present the healthcare protest as part of a broader "spring of struggle" for the social left.

The legislature, under pressure

The Government faces one of the most complicated moments of the legislature. Pedro Sánchez maintains that his intention is to exhaust the mandate and reach 2027, but political pressure has intensified on several fronts.

The PP and Vox demand early elections and accuse the Executive of being politically exhausted. At the same time, some parliamentary partners have issued warnings about the need to recover a clear agenda, approve measures, and demonstrate real governing capacity.

In that context, Montero's phrase adds pressure from the left and reinforces the idea that the Government's wear and tear no longer comes solely from the conservative opposition.

Sánchez defends resisting until 2027

While Podemos considers the legislature exhausted, Pedro Sánchez insists that the Government must continue. The president has defended institutional stability in recent days and has accused the opposition of trying to bring down the Executive with bad tactics.

La Moncloa tries to sustain the framework of continuity: govern, approve measures, and resist political and judicial pressure. But the problem is that the legislature depends on a complex and increasingly strained parliamentary majority.
