The general secretary of PSOE-M and minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, has reiterated that he is going to "give his life to change the Community of Madrid" after being officially proclaimed this Saturday as the socialist candidate for the regional elections scheduled for May 2027.

The announcement was made at an event held in Fuenlabrada, where it was confirmed that his opponent in the primaries, Silvia López Quivira, did not obtain the minimum required endorsements. The socialist leader has gathered more than 4,400 supports, comfortably exceeding the threshold of 2,092 signatures, equivalent to 15% of the membership, direct affiliates, and members of the Socialist Youth of Madrid.

Óscar López, who will face the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso (PP), at the polls, has thanked the membership for their support and has stressed that it is "an immense honor" to lead the PSOE's candidacy to preside over the regional government.

The minister has also resorted to a simile with the Spanish national football team, which on Friday secured its place in the World Cup semi-finals, to explain the spirit with which he wants to face this stage, highlighting that La Roja wins "because no star is above the team."

"What I want for the Socialist Party of Madrid is that we all work as a team, that when one loses the ball we all go out to recover it, that it doesn't matter who scores the goal, that the important thing is that we all win and that no star is above the team. Never, ever. The important thing is the team," he stated.

López has announced that one of his main priorities will be housing. To this end, he has indicated that he will rely on the State Housing Plan approved by the central government and has expressed his intention to convene all socialist mayors in the region to "identify public land and create the largest public housing plan in the history of this region."

Regarding public services, especially healthcare and education, the PSOE-M candidate has defended the need to restore "all their recognition and capacity for action," which means, he said, reinforcing the resources of professionals and increasing funding for public universities by 600 million euros.

"Faced with the perverse system that causes some private managers to enrich themselves with everyone's health while doctors go out of their way to reach every patient in every municipality of the Community of Madrid, we defend good management that reduces waiting lists and provides more healthcare professionals in health centers and hospitals," he assured.
