The Secretary General of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has harshly criticized the recent statements by the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, regarding absenteeism. Belarra has defined his words as "an absolute infamy" and has stressed that "the right" seeks to "exploit workers even more" by questioning whether those who are absent from their jobs without justification should receive the same salary as when they attend their post.
In the interview granted to La 2 and reported by Europa Press, the leader of the purple party has underlined that these statements "attack the dignity of the workers, who are the best this country has." In this context, she has recommended that Feijóo "come down a little more to the daily reality of workers" and "stop lying" and "copy initiatives" from "the international far-right."
Belarra has extended her criticism to the role of employers, referring to businessmen as "the bosses who want to exploit workers." Furthermore, she has remarked that "many people" end up using vacation days to "take their mother or father to the doctor when they get older." As she has pointed out, "many people go to work sick because they are afraid that if they don't go, they will eventually be fired."
Podemos's Criticism of the Functioning of Justice
At another point in the interview, the leader of Podemos has directed her reproaches to the judicial sphere, which she has described as "the private preserve of the right" when asked about the decision that has prevented the 'Little Nicolás' from going to prison after paying a fine of 1,800 euros.
Belarra has maintained that these types of rulings have been observed "all these years" and has held the PSOE responsible for not having acted to reverse this situation. In her opinion, "it has done nothing to avoid this situation" and has raised the question of why, "being able to have renewed the General Council of the Judiciary with the plurinational and democratic majority," such a renewal was not carried out.
The leader of the party has insisted that Justice "did not make the transition to democracy" and has accused it of protecting "the corrupt of the PP," "the privileged," and "the 'Little Nicolás'." By way of conclusion, she has stressed that "anyone with eyes can see it."
