The PSOE membership in Córdoba capital will have to return to the polls for a second round of the Primaries in order to designate the socialist candidate for the Mayor of Córdoba for the municipal elections on May 23, 2027. In this new vote, José Antonio Romero and Ángel Ortiz, the two most supported options in the first round held this Saturday, September 26, will face each other, in which none of the three candidacies managed to exceed 50 percent of the votes cast.
According to the data provided by the socialist organization, the lists headed by José Antonio Romero and Ángel Ortiz have garnered 45.24% and 29.52% of the votes, respectively, which is why they advance to the second round. The third candidacy, led by Victoria Fernández, is out of the process after obtaining 25.24% of the support. The participation of the membership in this first day has reached 60.52%, as detailed by the party in an informative note.
The second vote will be held on Saturday, October 3, as stated in the calendar set for these socialist Primaries, and will again be open to the affiliated persons of the PSOE groups in Córdoba capital authorized to participate in the internal process.
It will be the result of this second round that determines who will finally be the person to head the PSOE candidacy for the Mayor of Córdoba in the local elections on May 23, 2027, between the proposals of Romero and Ortiz. The final proclamation will fall to the Ethics and Guarantees Commission of the PSOE, once the results are reviewed and validated according to the established internal procedure.
The first voting day took place this Saturday in the eight socialist groups of Córdoba capital, where the polling stations remained open, generally, between 10:00 and 20:00 hours, except in the Alcolea group, where the scheduled hours were from 18:00 to 20:00 hours.
In this internal process, three candidacies have participated, led by Victoria Fernández, Ángel Ortiz, and José Antonio Romero, who previously passed the presentation and validation phase of endorsements required to participate in the Primaries. The three lists agreed last Friday to suspend all planned events and meetings for the campaign closure as a sign of mourning and respect for the death in a traffic accident of the commissioner, set designer, cultural producer, and PSOE militant from Córdoba, Pablo Téllez, whose funeral they attended on the morning of this Saturday.
In the context of this process, the three candidates participated at the beginning of the week in the first Primaries debate organized by the PSOE of Córdoba, open to the membership and with prior attention to the media, as an exercise in participation and internal democracy valued by both the candidacies and the socialist activists.
For almost two hours, they shared a space for exchanging ideas to "listen, contrast, and present to the members the different proposals regarding thematic blocks such as the diagnosis of the city, action program, or alliances with social sectors and teams to govern."
The socialist membership of Córdoba capital will thus have a new appointment with the polls in seven days, where they will decide whether José Antonio Romero or Ángel Ortiz will lead the PSOE project in the city for the municipal elections of 2027.
