The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has informed that this Tuesday he had a "magnificent conversation" with the newly appointed British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, as he explained in a post on the social network 'X', reported by Europa Press.
In his message, Sánchez emphasized the numerous "challenges," "values," and "goals" that Spain and the United Kingdom share, and stressed that both Executives are "determined to work together" to "promote a progress agenda" not only in both countries but also "for Europe and for the world."
From London, Burnham has highlighted the recent signing of the agreement on Gibraltar and has insisted on the need to "take advantage of this momentum to deepen cooperation" between the United Kingdom and Spain. Additionally, in the sports field, he conveyed to Sánchez his congratulations for the "brilliant victory" of the Spanish national team in the football World Cup.
The new leader of the Labour Party assumed the position of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom this Monday after accepting the mandate of King Charles III of England to form a Government, following the resignation of Keir Starmer, committing to a new political and economic model that works for the entire citizenry.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has conveyed this Tuesday his congratulations to the new British Foreign Secretary, Ed Miliband, to whom he assured that they will collaborate closely to "promote shared prosperity."
Miliband —who was Labour leader between 2010 and 2015 and until now served as Minister of Energy— was appointed this Monday as the new Foreign Secretary in place of Yvette Cooper.
