The second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, has reiterated that Sumar maintains that former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero must provide explanations for his supposed connection to the 'Plus Ultra' case, understanding that there is "unease," "sadness," and "concern" in society.
Díaz made this statement at the press conference following the Council of Ministers this Tuesday, when asked about the view of Sumar members in the Executive regarding the judicial situation facing Zapatero.
With these statements, the leader of Sumar has publicly articulated her demand for explanations from the former head of the Executive, in contrast to the position of the Government spokesperson minister, Elma Saiz, who in the same appearance reiterated her confidence that former Government president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is innocent, and has avoided commenting on the "different versions and defense strategies" of Julio Martínez and other individuals investigated in the "Plus Ultra case."
This same Tuesday, businessman Julio Martínez Martínez, a partner of Zapatero, pointed to the former socialist leader as a mediator in the rescue of 53 million euros that the Government granted in 2020 to the airline Plus Ultra, although he indicated that he does not know what actions were taken or who he contacted to obtain such public aid.
On this point, Yolanda Díaz emphasized that she does not make comments on open judicial proceedings, considering it would be irresponsible to speak out while Justice continues its investigations.
However, she indicated that she takes as her own the references of the spokesperson minister to the presumption of innocence, but stressed that her political formation has already expressed that Zapatero must provide "explanations" regarding his role in this matter.
"And we firmly believe this because it is true that there is unease, there is sadness, and there is a lot of concern among the citizens of our country. We ask for explanations and the rest of the considerations, if you allow me, I take as reproduced what the spokesperson minister has said," she concluded.
