International sales of the confectionery industry in Spain reached 2,658 million euros in 2025, representing an increase of 9.75% compared to 2024, according to the "2025 Foreign Trade Report" prepared by Produlce, the Spanish Confectionery Association.

In terms of volume, exports stood at 671,000 tons, 2.22% more than the previous year, consolidating the international projection of Spanish products in a context still conditioned by inflationary pressures, geopolitical tensions, and a generalized increase in the cost of raw materials.

The figures also show an improvement in competitiveness: while the average price of exports rose by 7.36% in 2025, that of imports rose by 17%, widening the differential between the two and highlighting a greater adaptability of the national industry.

"The sector maintains a structurally solid position and demonstrates great adaptability in a complex scenario for the entire international food industry. The data reflect that Spanish companies are responding with competitiveness, diversification, and added value, although also with significant differences between categories," stated the general secretary of Produlce, Rubén Moreno.

Categories with the best performance abroad

By product lines, cocoa and chocolate ranked as the sector's leading export category in 2025, with 858 million euros and an increase of 35.7% over the previous year.

The association emphasizes that this result occurs in an international scenario particularly strained by the evolution of cocoa prices, in which the Spanish industry has managed to strengthen its competitiveness and increase its presence in other markets.

In contrast, candies and chewing gum, traditionally the category with the highest export weight, dropped to second place with 723 million euros, weighed down primarily by the decline in sales in the United States and France. Biscuits, for their part, maintained a very favorable trajectory, reaching 703 million euros exported, with balanced growth between value and volume.

The advance of pastries and cakes is also noteworthy, totaling 215 million euros, while bakery products reached 86.8 million. Turrones and marzipans stood at 72.8 million euros, maintaining a high diversification of destinations.

Europe strengthens and the US loses weight since 2023

By geographical areas, Europe reinforced its role as the main destination for Spanish sweets, absorbing 75% of the total exported, 2.5 percentage points more than in 2023. The United States accounted for 11.6% of sales, Africa 6.1%, Asia 6.7%, and Oceania 0.5%.

Among key markets, France and Portugal consolidated their leadership with accumulated increases since 2023 exceeding 27% in value, while the United Kingdom regained third place as an external destination and Germany again registered positive growth.

Conversely, the United States confirmed the downward trend initiated in 2024, with an accumulated drop of 20.4% in value since 2023, in an environment marked by inflationary and trade tensions and by the evolution of the dollar exchange rate against the euro.

On the other hand, Morocco continued to strengthen as a strategic market for the sector, surpassing the 100 million euro barrier in exports for the first time and recording accumulated growth of 34.6% in value and 20.8% in volume since 2023.

At the same time, imports of confectionery products increased by 18.4% in value during 2025. With this, the Spanish confectionery industry maintains a trade surplus of 833 million euros.
