The State Attorney General's Office and the Tax Agency have decided to intensify their coordination in the fight against drug trafficking and corruption through a new institutional agreement. The pact contemplates the creation of a specific support unit of the AEAT in the Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office and the continuity of the reinforcement unit that was already operating in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

According to sources from the Public Prosecutor's Office, as reported to Europa Press, the newly established AEAT support unit in the Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office will be responsible for advising and providing technical information in investigations carried out by the Prosecutor's Office regarding drug trafficking and money laundering.

The same sources have detailed that this unit will be responsible for preparing asset reports, carrying out investigative proceedings, and assuming coordination and liaison tasks, when necessary, with other departments or specialized units of the Tax Agency, including the customs surveillance service.

In the agreement itself, both institutions have also committed to maintaining the support unit that is already operating in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, the aforementioned sources added.

This support unit is tasked with carrying out reports, audits, and actions requested by the head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office or the State Attorney General.

Furthermore, the agreement provides for the State Attorney General's Office and the Tax Agency to collaborate on training and updating programs aimed at strengthening the fight against money laundering, corruption, and organized crime, targeting both prosecutors and Treasury officials.
