The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid has ratified before Judge Juan Carlos Peinado its position in favor of the acquittal of Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, as well as her advisor Cristina Álvarez and the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, understanding that none of them engaged in criminal conduct.
In the brief of conclusions sent to the magistrate, which Europa Press has had access to, the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office requests that "the acquittal of the accused proceed" considering that "the narrated facts do not constitute a criminal offense".
The Prosecutor's Office had already requested the dismissal of the proceedings on several occasions from the investigating judge of the 'Begoña Gómez case' and announced months ago that it would request the acquittal of the three investigated individuals.
Last June, Judge Peinado decided to open a oral trial with a jury against Gómez, Álvarez, and Barrabés. In that same resolution, he imposed on the first two the withdrawal of their passports, the prohibition of leaving national territory, and the obligation to appear every fifteen days at the court "for the duration of the processing of this case and until a final resolution is issued".
The investigating judge charges Gómez and her advisor with alleged crimes of influence peddling, business corruption, misappropriation, and embezzlement of public funds, while Barrabés is only attributed the first two criminal offenses, without ordering precautionary measures against him.
In parallel, the popular accusations led by Hazte Oír request sentences of 24 years in prison for Sánchez's wife, 22 years for her advisor, and six years in prison for Barrabés.
