The order issued by judge Santiago Pedraz within the expansion of the Leire Díez case places under suspicion various actions carried out after the publication in the press of messages from former minister José Luis Ábalos, including the opening of internal investigations within the Guardia Civil on members of the Unidad Central Operativa (UCO).
The judicial resolution, dated May 26, maintains that the investigated organization would have deployed different lines of action aimed at influencing judicial and police procedures that affected the interests of the PSOE or people linked to the party's environment.
Among these actions, the magistrate expressly mentions the so-called "reserved information" opened within the Guardia Civil after the public dissemination of WhatsApp messages from Ábalos "and other relevant members of his party published in the press". According to the order, one of the hypotheses under investigation is the possible leakage of these messages from the Corps itself.
Actions against UCO agents
The judge incorporates this episode within a line of action that he describes as aimed at "discrediting" or "neutralizing" police and judicial investigations. Specifically, the order mentions actions aimed at "collecting personal and secret data and information" on agents who participated in investigations considered sensitive.
The resolution attributes a central role in this alleged strategy to former socialist militant Leire Díez and other individuals investigated in the case. Pedraz maintains that there was a coordinated action with the objective of protecting political interests and acting against procedures that affected the Government or the PSOE.
In several passages, the order describes contacts, meetings, and actions linked to media campaigns, obtaining reserved information, and movements aimed at influencing various open investigations. The magistrate also maintains that some of these actions sought to act specifically against members of the UCO.
The judicial document also includes references to conversations about police commanders and specific agents, as well as mentions of internal actions within the Guardia Civil. According to the judge, some of these proceedings would have been initiated after the publication of messages from Ábalos.
The car is part of the proceedings that have led this Wednesday to a search at the federal headquarters of the PSOE in Ferraz, within an expansion of the investigation already opened in the National Court.
For the moment, the case is in the investigation phase and the hypotheses included in the order are part of the ongoing judicial investigation.
