The object, identified as 2025-010D, had been linked through the analysis of its trajectory with the launch Ghost Riders in the Sky.
An artificial impact followed by scientists
The calculations placed the collision between the Bell and Einstein craters, on the far side of the Moon.
The impact was expected around 06:35 UTC on Wednesday, August 5. Different scientific teams prepared observations to try to detect the flash and the cloud of material expelled by the collision.
The event also offers an opportunity to study artificial impacts on the lunar surface and improve the tracking of objects that remain in space between the Earth and the Moon.
