The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni (PSC), has maintained that "more police presence" is necessary after the murder of a man on the central Balmes street this Wednesday morning.

He stated this in an interview on "betevé", in which he explained that the City Council is following the case with "concern" and pointed out that everything indicates it could be linked to organized crime.

"What will probably be needed is to toughen penalties regarding arms possession and drug trafficking, which is often what lies behind these episodes," said the mayor, advocating for a firmer response from the penal sphere.

In recent weeks, two other homicides with firearms have been recorded in the city of Barcelona, both in the Zona Franca, the last of them on Sunday night on Mineria street, which has increased the sense of alarm.

The weapon used in the crime is found

Around 12:30 p.m., funeral services were removing the lifeless body of the man, who was shot at the intersection of Balmes street and Travessera de Gràcia, a very busy area of the city.

The incident took place at 9:50 a.m., a short distance from a National Police station. The victim was left lying on the ground after receiving at least one shot fired by a person who immediately fled the scene, as Europa Press has been able to confirm.

The Mossos d'Esquadra located the murder weapon in the vicinity, near Gal·la Placídia square, which has been seized and is under police custody as a possible key piece of evidence to clarify the crime.
