The city of Don Benito in Badajoz is scheduled to pay a public tribute this Thursday, July 23, to the footballer Pedro Porro, after he was proclaimed champion of the World Cup last Sunday.

The recognition will begin at 9:00 PM at the Pedro Porro Sports City, where all the neighbors can gather to pay this gesture of admiration towards the local player.

"It will be a very special night to thank him for his effort, his humility, and the pride with which he has always carried the name of Don Benito around the world," highlighted the Don Benito City Council in a message on social media reported by Europa Press.

The mayor of the locality, Elisabeth Medina, emphasized in another social media post that this Thursday she will have the "immense pride" of officially receiving him, at the request of the footballer himself, in an event "full of emotion and gratitude."

During the institutional reception, Medina will welcome him on behalf of all the people of Don Benito, accompanied by the municipal corporation. In that context, Pedro Porro will sign the city's Book of Honor and leave "his mark in the history of Don Benito forever."

After the official event, the player will greet the attendees, who will be able to express to him the "enormous affection" and "pride" they feel for him.

"Pedro has carried the name of Don Benito around the world with his effort, his humility, and his talent. Now it's our turn to give back, together, a small part of that affection," valued the first mayor.

The mayor has also called for community participation so that the streets are filled with "pride" and "applause" in receiving "as he deserves one of the great references of Spanish sport and, above all, a son of Don Benito."
