The PNV has stated that the Constitutional Court's (TC) decision not to admit for processing the unconstitutionality question raised by the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) regarding the linguistic profiles of the Basque Employment Law represents "very good news and a boost" to the framework that, over the last forty years, has allowed progress in the normalization of Euskera in public administration.
The PNV parliamentarian Markel Olano has emphasized in a statement that "it is thus confirmed that there was no legal reason to raise this question to the TC".
The party has highlighted that the Constitutional Court's resolution occurs almost at the same time as the Basque Parliament has approved the reform of the Public Employment Law promoted by the PNV itself with the aim of "safeguarding and protecting Euskera by providing greater legal certainty to the Public Employment Offers".
The party has explained that it promoted this modification "after various judicial rulings in recent months have annulled the processes for accessing public employment due to the linguistic requirements of the offered positions".
In this regard, the PNV has expressed its hope that "the endorsement" of the TC and the new regulations "will definitively clear the threats" that weighed on Euskera and the Euskera-learning system in the public sphere.
"TURN THE PAGE"
"It is time to leave behind the questioning around our language and to turn the page on a judicial dynamic that harms Euskera and harms our citizens," the party has stated.
The party has insisted on the importance of "looking to the future with guarantees, from political consensus and legal solidity, to continue with a model that has proven successful in the dual objective of defending Euskera and the linguistic rights of citizens".
At the same time, it has criticized "the current context, to which the controversy surrounding the PAU exams is also added, has served to, from some circles, position our language as something dispensable or accessory, and even to use Euskera as a throwing weapon".
"INSTRUMENTALIZATION"
Faced with these positions, the PNV has defended the need to "protect our language as an essential part of our country, without which Euskadi and the Basque nation cannot be understood".
In this regard, the jeltzale party has reiterated its commitment to "a proportionate, reasoned, and effective policy" on language planning, using the tools of self-government "to continue protecting the Basque language and the linguistic rights of citizens, keeping our language away from noise, confrontation, and instrumentalization, always hand in hand with Basque society".
