Spain experienced again this Tuesday a black day due to macho violence with the murder of two women, one in the Region of Murcia and another in Asturias, allegedly at the hands of their partners or ex-partners. Both cases would raise to 35 the number of women murdered by gender violence so far in 2026, although the latest official balance from the Ministry of Equality, updated on August 3, still records 33 fatal victims because these two crimes have not yet been incorporated into the official statistics.
The security forces are investigating both homicides as alleged cases of gender violence, while the Government Delegation against Gender Violence keeps the usual confirmation procedure open before updating the official record.
Two crimes in less than 24 hours
In Murcia, a 44-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her partner in a commercial center establishment. After the events, the alleged aggressor fled the scene and the National Police opened an investigation to clarify what happened, while the protocol for cases of gender violence was activated.
In Llanes (Asturias), a 50-year-old Civil Guard officer was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner, also a member of the armed institute. After the attack, the alleged aggressor was shot down by other agents dispatched to the scene, in an event that is also being investigated as a case of macho violence.
The Ministry keeps the balance at 33 victims for now
The latest report published by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, with an update date of August 3, places the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners at 33 since the beginning of 2026. The document specifies that the last case incorporated corresponds to a 27-year-old woman murdered in Cantabria on July 31 and notes that, on that date, there were no pending cases under investigation.
According to that same balance, Andalusia is the autonomous community with the highest number of victims this year, with nine confirmed cases, followed by the Valencian Community, with five, and the Community of Madrid, with three.
Furthermore, 69.7% of the victims had not filed previous complaints for gender violence and 60.6% had maintained a relationship as ex-partners or were in the process of breaking up with the alleged aggressor. The report also notes that 23 minors have been left orphaned as a result of these murders.
