The turnover of companies recorded in August a strong increase of 9.1% compared to the same month of 2025, an advance more than five points higher than that noted in July and the most intense since January 2023, according to the Business Turnover Index (ICNE) released this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With this year-on-year growth in August, business sales have now accumulated six consecutive months of increases.
The boost in billing in August was driven by the increase in sales across all major sectors, with a notable prominence of the supply of electricity and water, which rose by 33.8%. Advances of 10.8% were also observed in industry, 7.2% in commerce, and 4.1% in services.
If seasonal and calendar effects are eliminated, the turnover of companies grew by 8.1% year-on-year in August, above the 5.1% recorded the previous month, thus chaining 24 consecutive months of increases.
In monthly terms (August compared to July), and in the seasonally adjusted series, the billing of companies advanced by 1.8%, which represents its largest month-to-month increase since March.
