Carrefour, the French giant of distribution, reached in Spain a turnover of 5.726 billion euros during the first half of the year, which implies an increase of 2.7% compared to the same period a year ago.
In the last three months, Carrefour launched 44 new establishments in the Spanish market, so its commercial network now totals 1,654 stores. At the same time, the customer base of the Carrefour Club surpassed 11 million members, after incorporating 500,000 new registrations in the first half.
The French company recorded a 2.3% increase in its food sales in comparable terms, while the turnover of non-food products grew by 2.2%.
The recurring operating profit in Spain increased by 7.3%, reaching 177 million euros in the first six months of 2026, compared to the 165 million recorded in the same period of 2025, which represents an improvement in the margin of 14 basis points, up to 3.3%.
Likewise, the company has emphasized that the semester was characterized by a "sustained growth" of fresh categories in hypermarkets, along with the "excellent" performance of the convenience format and e-commerce operations.
"In a favorable market environment, Spain maintained an excellent growth rate and achieved an improvement in its profitability," highlighted the president and CEO of Carrefour, Alexandre Bompard.
Global results of the Carrefour group
The net profit attributed to the group amounted to 30 million euros, compared to the losses of 401 million recorded in the first half of the previous fiscal year, while the total turnover reached 40.404 billion euros, 2% more.
Sales costs increased to 32.886 billion euros, which represents a rise of 2.3%, and the group's recurring operating profit advanced by 4%, reaching 757 million euros.
In France, its main market, sales grew by 1.1%; in Brazil, they slightly decreased by 0.1%; and in the rest of the countries, they rebounded by up to 8.6%, leaving a global growth of the group of 2.1% in the first six months of the year.
Between April and June, the period was conditioned by a "volatile" macroeconomic and geopolitical context. In particular, the conflict in the Middle East generated strong tensions in international markets and resulted in a spike in energy and fuel prices. Despite this scenario, Carrefour's activity remained "dynamic," with a 1.9% increase in sales in the second quarter in comparable terms, driven by a 2.1% increase in food and an additional 0.4% in non-food products.
"The first half of 2026 was marked by the launch of Carrefour 2030, a plan firmly focused on customers and excellence in retail. The implementation dynamics are solid, particularly regarding price competitiveness, strengthening our fresh food offering, expanding our growth formats, and deploying AI solutions across all our operations," highlighted Alexandre Bompard.
"Building on this solid performance and the commitment of all our teams, we continue to execute our plan in the second half and confirm all our financial forecasts for 2026," he added.
