The Government has decided to support the second vice president and minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, as a candidate for the general direction of the International Labour Organization (ILO), according to a statement released this Thursday by Moncloa.

The president of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, has also shared the news through his profile on the social network 'X', where he has stated that it is an "honor" to make this candidacy public.

"For the first time, a woman and our country would be at the forefront of this fundamental institution for the defense of decent work and social justice," he emphasized, also noting that Díaz "has demonstrated with policies and results her commitment to labor rights, social dialogue, and the prosperity of Spain."

In this sense, the head of the Government concluded that the "experience, trajectory, and vocation for consensus" of the vice president "make her an excellent candidate to lead the ILO."
