The second vice president and minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, has explained that the increase in registered unemployment in July, by 19,517 people, is largely due to the process of regularization of migrants, and has stated that, despite the rise in unemployment, it constitutes a "good news" for Spain.
"This increase is unusual and is mainly due to the regularization process through which many migrant people have had their rights recognized. Although we see an increase, it is good news for the country," Díaz has pointed out in several messages published on her Bluesky profile.
In July, unemployment among the foreign population increased by 15,535 people, a 4.54%, reaching 357,621 unemployed, that is, 30,959 more unemployed than in the same month of the previous year, which represents a year-on-year increase of 9.48%.
The Minister of Labor has emphasized that, despite the monthly rise, the total number of people registered in the unemployment lists stands at 2,311,499, the lowest record for a month of July since 2007.
Díaz has also highlighted that youth unemployment has once again reached a historic low, with 159,562 under 25 years old unemployed. "Our labor policies focused on them have borne fruit. Never before have there been so few young people unemployed," she has stated.
She has also focused on the fact that female unemployment remains below 1.4 million women and has claimed the decrease in temporary employment resulting from the labor reform.
"Stability consolidates for another month. 39% of registered contracts are permanent. Disposable contracts are now part of the past," she has defended.
Finally, the head of Labor has reiterated that the Executive will continue to approve measures such as strengthening the control of the time registration and new increases in the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI). "As long as there is one member of a family unemployed, we will continue to promote policies that improve the lives of working people," she has concluded.
