Iberdrola has closed the first half of the year with 5.336 billion euros in new sustainable financing, of which 4.842 billion euros come from green financing instruments and 494 million euros from operations associated with sustainability criteria.

With this new resource raising, the energy group reaches a total volume of sustainable financing of 71.152 billion euros at the end of the first six months of 2026, according to the semiannual information from the company accessed by Europa Press.

Within that structure, green bonds constitute the main pillar, with 26.679 billion euros, allowing the group chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán to consolidate itself as the largest private issuer in the world of this type of instruments intended for its own investment.

In the detail of the 4.842 billion euros achieved through green financing between January and June, senior bond issuances stand out for 2.699 billion euros and hybrid bonds for 600 million euros. To these figures are added 695 million euros in loans with development banks, 525 million euros in multilateral financing, 291 million euros through energy tax investment structures (TEI), and 32 million euros in green bank loans.

As for the 494 million euros channeled through operations linked to sustainability, they are distributed between 409 million euros formalized as bank loans and an additional 85 million euros from development entities.

The global portfolio of sustainable financing of the electric company also incorporates 14.202 billion euros in sustainable credit lines, 8.731 billion euros in green structured financing, and 6.000 billion euros in sustainable commercial paper.

Issuance of green bond of 1.500 billion for networks

Among the most relevant financial operations of the period, Iberdrola completed the placement of a green bond for 1.500 billion euros intended to cover investments in its networks business. The issuance recorded a demand exceeding 4.500 billion euros, which implied an oversubscription of three times compared to the initial offer.

In the environmental and good governance sphere, Iberdrola has reaffirmed its presence in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World & Europe index of S&P for 2026. The company thus remains the only European 'utility' present in all 26 editions of this sustainability benchmark since its launch, positioning itself at the forefront of the sector internationally.

In digitalization and technology, the Spanish multinational is accelerating electrification through the combination of artificial intelligence and human talent in more than 450 ongoing projects. Thanks to this commitment, Iberdrola has been recognized by Fortune and Statista publications as the most innovative 'utility' in Europe in the year 2026.

These initiatives are framed within the company's strategic plan in technology and innovation, which foresees a committed investment of 1.6 billion euros in research, development, and innovation (R&D+i) for the period 2025-2028.
