The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced the accession of Meliá Hotels International as a new global member of the organization.

The entity has highlighted the solid international expansion and sustained growth of the Mallorcan hotel company, which currently operates more than 400 establishments and a portfolio of nine brands in 46 countries, after more than 70 years of activity.

Likewise, the WTTC has highlighted Meliá's strategy, based on innovation, sustainability, and priority attention to the guest, elements that, according to the organization, "position the group as a benchmark in the global hotel industry."

"We look forward to collaborating closely with Meliá to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient sector, while continuing to demonstrate the transformative power of travel and tourism as a driver of economic growth and cultural connection worldwide," said the President and CEO of the WTTC, Gloria Guevara.

For his part, the CEO of Meliá, Gabriel Escarrer, has remarked that the WTTC constitutes an "indispensable" platform for the exchange of knowledge and for guiding the improvement of tourism policies, driving the transition towards a more profitable, sustainable model with greater international projection for the industry.

Among the Spanish companies that are already part of the WTTC as global members are also Barceló and Amadeus.
