The mining activity represented 76.1% of the total exports of Peru until the month of April, which translated into operations worth 28.962 billion dollars (25.139 billion euros) and an annual increase of 60.6%, according to the data released this Tuesday by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

The shipments of copper, gold, lead, and zinc accounted for 93.1% of the mining export basket and represented, in turn, 70.9% of the total sales abroad of the country.

Only in April, the exports of metallic and non-metallic minerals reached 7.313 billion dollars (6.348 billion euros), which represents a rebound of 75% driven, above all, by the strong revaluation of copper in international markets.

"This result was supported by sustained demand for metals from the industrial, technological, and energy sectors, which continues to contribute to strengthening Peru's position as one of the main global suppliers of strategic minerals," the Minem has assured in a statement.

Likewise, the General Directorate of Promotion and Mining Sustainability (DGPSM) emphasized that the scenario of geopolitical and economic uncertainty has also driven interest in precious metals as safe-haven assets, especially in the case of gold.
