Peru recorded the arrival of 1.628 million international tourists until the month of June, which represents a year-on-year drop of 0.7% and a recovery of 74.8% of the volume of travelers registered before the pandemic for this same period, according to data released by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
According to the agency, the main source markets were Chile, with 350,000 visitors (-3.9%), the United States, with 320,000 (+3%), Ecuador, with 128,000 (-0.3%), Bolivia, with 84,000 (-10.9%), Colombia, with 83,000 (-9.4%) and Brazil, with 82,000 (-3.9%). Together, these six countries accounted for 64.3% of the total tourists who entered the country.
By regions, North America represented 25% of the flow with 407,000 tourists, followed by Europe, which contributed 274,000 travelers (16.8%). Next were Asia, with 79,000 arrivals (4.8%), and Central America, with 44,000 tourists (2.7%), thus keeping the map of origins relatively stable.
Regarding the most visited attractions, the Magic Water Circuit received 1.134 million visitors, of which 95% were Peruvian residents, while "Machu Picchu" accounted for 521,771 people, with 81.4% of foreign tourists and 18.6% of national visitors, consolidating itself as the main international magnet of the country.
Regarding access routes, more than one million tourists entered Peru through the immigration control of Jorge Chávez International Airport, which concentrated 65.5% of the entries. The border control post of Santa Rosa de Tacna recorded 259,000 arrivals (15.9%) and the Binational Border Attention Center of Tumbes added another 117,000 tourists (7.2%), ranking among the most used crossings.
