A delegation from the PNV has traveled this Wednesday to Brussels to meet with officials from the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW) of the EU. In the meeting, they have conveyed the current situation of Tubos Reunidos and have underlined the relevance of guaranteeing the continuity of "not only employment in Amurrio, but a leading industry of great importance for Europe".

After the meeting, the mayor of Amurrio, José Ramón Molinuevo, has insisted that "Neither Aiaraldea nor Europe can afford to lose this industrial muscle", and has defined the meeting held in Brussels as "fruitful". The Jeltzale delegation also included the president of the ABB, Jone Berriozabal, the parliamentarian Jonatan Moreno, and the Jeltzale MEP, Oihane Agirregoitia.

The councilor of Amurrio, a municipality where one of the plants of this Basque company in serious difficulties is located, which has proposed a collective dismissal for 240 workers within its viability plan, has announced that it has been agreed to establish a monitoring of Tubos Reunidos in three main areas.

According to what has been detailed, "The first, debt and tariffs: explore aid for debt rescue due to the impact of tariffs and, for that reason, they will coordinate it with the Directorate of Competition and the Directorate of Employment to see possible solutions".

The second axis focuses on energy, specifically on aid for the energy-intensive industry, which is currently being reviewed in the context of the Iran war.

The third area refers to the transition and the future of the area. "As announced by the lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, the PNV has proposed to European officials that Aiaraldea and Euskadi host a European pilot project of the 'Industrial Hub' to help with industrial reconversion towards a low-carbon model," the mayor of Amurrio concluded.
