Argentina has resolved this Thursday to declare "terrorist organization" the gang Chone Killers, which emerged in Ecuador six years ago after separating from Los Choneros, a group that was already listed in the list of terrorist entities prepared by the Executive of Javier Milei.
"The Government has declared the Ecuadorian criminal organization Chone Killers as a terrorist organization (...) In the framework of the international commitments assumed by the Argentine Republic in the fight against terrorism and its financing (...) the Government ordered its incorporation into the Public Register of Persons and Entities linked to Acts of Terrorism and its Financing (RePET), dependent on the Ministry of Justice," announced the Office of the Argentine president.
According to the Argentine Presidency, the Ecuadorian gang has transformed into "one of the most violent criminal structures in the region, dedicated to international drug trafficking, extortion, contract killing, and other illicit activities linked to transnational organized crime," and in the same official note, it is defined as a "narcocriminal" group.
The decision is made public in parallel to the official visit of Javier Milei to Ecuador, where he is accompanied by the Secretary of the Presidency, his sister Karina Milei, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pablo Quirno. This same Thursday, the Argentine head of state held a meeting in Quito with the Ecuadorian president, Daniel Noboa.
