At least five people have been injured this Saturday after the remnants of a Ukrainian drone struck an oil refinery in the Russian region of Krasnodar, in the Caucasus area, local authorities have reported.
"A fire broke out at the Ilski oil refinery due to the fall of the remnants of a drone. According to preliminary information, five people were injured and are receiving all necessary medical attention," authorities reported in a message on social media.
At the same time, the governor of Samara, Viacheslav Fedorishchev, has denounced a Ukrainian drone attack on "industrial facilities in the region," without providing further details. However, Ukrainian media suggest that the target may have been the refinery located in the city of Sizran.
This facility has an annual production capacity of about 8.9 million tons of crude oil, mainly intended for fuel for engines and vessels.
In recent months, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have intensified a campaign of long-range attacks against Russian oil and gas energy infrastructure and refineries, supported by the use of more advanced combat drones. Meanwhile, several episodes of fuel shortages at gas stations have already been recorded in Russia.
