At least two people have died, one of them a minor, and four others have been injured in the early hours of this Wednesday due to a new wave of airstrikes launched by the Russian Armed Forces against Kiev, in the context of the invasion initiated in February 2022 by order of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
The offensive was triggered shortly after the Ukrainian Air Force warned of the arrival of ballistic missiles heading towards the capital. Around 03:00 hours (local time), the authorities of Kiev reported more than a dozen explosions spread across several neighborhoods of the city.
"In the Obolón district, a fire has occurred in a commercial building. In the Golosiyiv district, a warehouse is on fire. Emergency services are heading to the incident sites," communicated the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, in a brief message shared via Telegram.
By around 03:40 hours, a new series of detonations was recorded, according to updates later provided by the Ukrainian newspaper 'The Kyiv Independent'.
According to sources from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine cited by this outlet, a significant part of the damage and casualties in the capital is concentrated in the Sviatoshinski district, while in the Podilski district, fires have been declared in a non-residential building and in a warehouse.
In the town of Vishhorod, rescue teams have found the lifeless body of a minor among the debris of a house hit by one of the impacts, an incident in which a man and a woman have also been injured.
In Bucha, the bombings have caused damage to three homes, eleven vehicles, and two warehouses, according to the head of the Military Administration of the Kiev region, Timur Tkachenko, also via Telegram. For now, the authorities have not presented a definitive assessment of the total extent of the damage across the region.
These attacks add to those recorded on Monday night, when missiles and drones struck several points in Kiev, leaving at least a dozen dead and around 200 people injured, according to figures released by Ukrainian authorities. All of this occurs in a scenario of intensified Russian attacks against the Ukrainian capital since last August.
