Between January and May of this year, Bolivia has received 402 million euros in remittances sent by Bolivian workers abroad, of which more than 50% comes from Spain, according to figures released by the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB).

The issuing body has highlighted on its official channels that "From January to May 2026, Bolivia received 459.91 million dollars in remittances from workers". Of that total, the main source is Spain, which accounts for 50.25% of the shipments, with 231.56 million dollars (equivalent to 202.46 million euros).

The United States is the second country of origin for these resources, with 15.1% of the total and 69.55 million dollars. In third place is Argentina, which contributes 5.3% and 24.13 million dollars in remittances sent to Bolivia.

The BCB describes these remittances as a "salary fund" intended to reinforce the income of Bolivian households, encourage savings and investment, and act as a financial cushion against economic unforeseen events.
