The Chinese Government has communicated this Wednesday that it will shortly deliver a new package of humanitarian assistance to Iran and Lebanon, with the objective of supporting the efforts of "rehabilitation and reconstruction" in both countries after the conflict in the Middle East triggered by the offensive launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against Iran.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Lin Jian, explained in a press conference that Beijing "has decided to deliver a new package of humanitarian aid in the near future" to Iran and Lebanon in order to "help the population of both countries to advance in rehabilitation and reconstruction and improve their economic situation."
In this context, he stressed that the Asian country considers itself "a good friend" of the Middle Eastern nations and "a responsible power," which is why he defended that "China will continue to offer support and assistance within its capabilities" and "will increase efforts to promote peace talks" in the region.
Pakistan, which has acted as a mediator, made public on Sunday a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran —ratified by both capitals— to put an end to the open war in the Middle East following the aforementioned offensive, which began while negotiations were taking place between the United States and Iran to reach a new nuclear agreement.
The delegations have confirmed that the signing of the memorandum of understanding will take place in Switzerland next Friday. From that moment on, a period of 60 days will be opened to finalize the terms of a definitive peace agreement, in a context marked by Iran's warnings about Israel's attacks against Lebanon, which Tehran considers a violation of what was agreed with Washington.
