The Israeli Army communicated this Monday the elimination of a prominent leader of Islamic Jihad in a bombing carried out last weekend in the central area of the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire in effect since October 2025.
"The Israel Defense Forces have eliminated a terrorist from Islamic Jihad who participated in the attacks of October 7, in the capture of Rom Braslavski and in the ceremonies for the handover of hostages," the Army indicated in a statement.
According to military authorities, Israeli forces attacked the area of Deir al Bala during the weekend, in an operation in which Fatair, described by Israel as a high-ranking commander of the elite Islamic Jihad force operating in the Gaza Central Brigade, in the heart of the Palestinian enclave, would have died.
Furthermore, the Army has stated that Fatair was "recorded in the uniform of the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad participating in the handover ceremony" of numerous hostages, including Amit Shani, Ofir Engel, or Moran Stella Yanai, among other names cited by the authorities.
"Recently, the terrorist attempted to promote terrorist plans against the Army forces and the citizens of the State of Israel and was neutralized to eliminate the threat he represented," the military statement added, without providing further details about the operation or the type of weaponry used.
On the other hand, Gazan authorities, controlled by Hamas, reported this Sunday that 1,202 Palestinians have lost their lives and 4,076 have been injured due to Israeli bombings since the entry into force of the agreement reached between both parties in October 2025.
