Israel has requested this Tuesday the cancellation of the ongoing procedure in the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after the court's chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, has been suspended from his duties following disciplinary proceedings for alleged sexual misconduct.

"The suspension of the ICC chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, after a UN investigation, shows that this institution is rotten to the core," stated the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, in a social media post.

Taking advantage of this situation, Danon has called to "annul the scandalous arrest warrants" against the head of the Israeli government.

Khan has been temporarily removed from his post after the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings opened due to allegations of sexual misconduct. The final decision now rests with the Assembly of States Parties, the court's governing body.

The ruling was based on a report from the investigation carried out by the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), "the underlying evidence," "the advice of an 'ad hoc' panel of judicial experts," and "written depositions."

In November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the context of the military offensive on Gaza.

Since then, Israeli authorities have intensified their criticism of the ICC, accusing it of issuing "biased" resolutions that are "habitually positioned against the State of Israel."
