The outgoing president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has decided this Wednesday to withdraw the recognition as negotiators at the peace dialogue table between the Government and the dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) led by Alexander Díaz Mendoza, alias 'Calarcá', from eight of its members, as there is no continuity in their support for the process or it is presumed that some of them "are deceased".
Specifically, the designations as representatives of Jonathan Jair Narváez Quintero, Alexander Farfán Suarez, Jaime Muñoz Dorado, Ramiro Pinzón Novoa, Ciro Alfonso Romero Ospina, and Guido Mauricio Ortiz Murillo have been rendered ineffective. Regarding these names, the resolution states that "currently there is no evidence of a willingness to continue supporting the peace process, so it is necessary to revoke their designations".
Regarding Yenimahr Nasare García and Andrés Orlando Ayala Garzón, the revocation is based on the fact that, "despite having participated in activities of the Peace Dialogue Table", it is currently "presumed that these individuals are deceased".
The decision, signed by the president leaving the Casa de Nariño, implies that, by nullifying these recognitions, the arrest warrants that had been suspended within the framework of the current peace process come back into effect.
Therefore, the document orders to "communicate" the resolution "through the Office of the Peace Commissioner to the corresponding authority for the lifting of the suspension of the relevant warrants".
This revocation of credentials occurs in the same week that the Prosecutor's Office of Colombia has filed charges against the dissident leader of the FARC Alexander Díaz Mendoza, alias 'Calarcá', for crimes of homicide, disappearance and forced displacement, recruitment of minors, and other acts allegedly committed between 2022 and 2026.
'Calarcá' leads the Jorge Briceño bloc, one of the three structures that make up the General Staff of the Blocks and Fronts (EMBF), a command instance that is also attributed to him and that acts as a split from the Central General Staff (EMC) of the FARC, led by Néstor Vera Fernández, alias 'Iván Mordisco'.
