The highest official in charge of the fight against corruption in Indonesia, Febrie Adriansyah, has submitted his resignation after a police raid uncovered gold bars and several million dollars in cash in his home.
Febrie's resignation was notified in writing to KompasTV last Saturday by the head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna.
The police search, carried out at the beginning of this week, is part of a broad investigation into possible corruption schemes in various state-owned companies in the country. During the intervention at the home of the now former prosecutor, located in Jakarta, officers found 74 kilos of gold in bars and around 25 million euros in cash and foreign currency.
The new prosecutor, Rudi Margono, has only wanted to refer to one of the two suspects linked to the case by the initial "F" and their status as a "public official," in relation to the scandal that implicates the state mining company Timah, the oil company Pertamina, and the airline Garuda Indonesia.
Adriansyah has admitted that the registered home belongs to him, but denies owning the confiscated assets. For the moment, he has not been arrested.
