The Russian authorities reported this Thursday that their forces have gained control of a new locality in the Donetsk province, in eastern Ukraine, in the context of the invasion initiated in February 2022 by order of President Vladimir Putin.

In an official note, the Ministry of Defense of Russia specified that the taken enclave is Bélitskoe, which "has been liberated by the troops of the Central Group of the Russian Armed Forces," without any public reaction from the Ukrainian government so far.

According to the statement, the capture of this locality was achieved after an operation launched the day before by the Russian Army in the area, where Moscow's forces would have managed to neutralize the Ukrainian military that remained "hidden in basements and buildings in the area."

In recent months, Russia has been proclaiming advances on the ground in the eastern front of Ukraine, with special emphasis on Donetsk, a region that, along with Lugansk, both integrated into the Donbas, has already been the scene since 2014 of a conflict between pro-Russian separatist militias and Ukrainian government forces.
