The Republican senator Bernie Moreno has publicly claimed that his former son-in-law, Congressman Max Miller, should resign from his seat after being accused of assaulting his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, daughter of the senator himself.
According to police reports, Emily Moreno reported that Miller threw hot water at her, pushed her against a wall, and pointed a gun at her head. The legislator, Republican representative from Ohio, stated this Saturday that he will not abandon his campaign for re-election in November and firmly rejected all accusations.
Moreno, who had initially been reluctant to speak out, has finally taken the step and has called for Miller's immediate resignation. "Max Miller needs serious psychological help. He is a danger to my daughter and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter," the senator wrote on social media.
The senator also emphasized that "If there are basic character standards necessary to hold an elected office, Max Miller fails to meet them," before stating that the congressman "should not serve in the House of Representatives."
For his part, Miller maintains his innocence and has criticized Moreno's delay in speaking out. "If my daughter told me the same thing, I personally would not wait two years before holding myself accountable. You know this is not true and the only reason you are speaking now is to hide from your own media circus. This is all political," the congressman responded.
